Cognitive Training vs. Tutoring

Not sure if cognitive training is right for you or your child? You’ve come to the right place. Sometimes the easiest way to understand what something is, is to understand what it is not.

Cognitive training is NOT tutoring. While trainers and tutors may share the same goal (to help students), their approach and its results will be very different.

What is Cognitive Training?

Cognitive training involves an individualized plan of activities that develop underlying neurological processes. It is process-driven and focused on developing skills.

What is Tutoring?

Tutoring is used to introduce, or reteach, a specific subject to a student. It is content-driven and focused on delivering information.

Who should see a cognitive trainer?

Cognitive training is a great option for individuals who need to work harder or longer than others to complete a task or achieve a goal. Students who have struggled in multiple classes in school or have received tutoring but continue to struggle would benefit from such training.

Many individuals with Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, processing disorders, and other diagnosed learning challenges seek out cognitive training, but anyone who wants to improve the way their brain processes information should see a cognitive trainer.

Who should see a tutor?

Individuals who would like to learn a new language, review course material for a final exam, or supplement missed school days could use the help of a tutor. A tutor will redeliver information or teach a singular subject.

If a student needs to see a tutor year-after-year for multiple subjects, it is a sign that they would benefit from cognitive training.
